Education was a complex part of Farouk's youth. He showed a great talent for learning different languages. He became fluent in Egyptian Arabic, Turkish, French, English, and Italian. He often used classical Arabic, the language of the Quran, for his public speeches. However, his academic progress was difficult. He attempted to attend the Royal Military Academy at Woolwich in England. He lived at Kenry House in Surrey to prepare for entrance exams. Unfortunately, he failed the entrance exams twice. His tutors noted that he often preferred shopping and social events over studying. 
When Farouk ascended the throne in 1936, he was only sixteen years old. 

As his reign continued, the relationship between the king and his people changed. 
Political tensions also grew between the monarchy and foreign influences. 
In 1952, a major political shift occurred through a military coup d'état.
