Modern Bihar faces unique social and economic challenges. Since the late 1970s, the state has lagged behind others in development. Some experts point to old policies and land issues as causes. There were also conflicts between different social groups over land rights. These tensions sometimes led to armed struggles in areas like Bhojpur. 
Today, the state is working toward an economic revival. The government is investing heavily in new infrastructure. There is a strong focus on improving healthcare and education. Recent projects include large investments in eye care facilities. These efforts aim to reduce crime and corruption while helping the economy grow.
