However, the Mughal Empire eventually exerted great influence over the region. The Mughal Emperor Akbar attacked the citizens of Mewar during the siege of Chittor. 
Today, Rajasthan is a major part of the Indian economy. It has the seventh-largest state economy in India by gross domestic product. The state's capital and largest city is Jaipur. Other significant urban centers include Jodhpur, Kota, Bikaner, and Udaipur. The state is also a center for modern energy production. Large solar power plants, such as the Bhadla Solar Park, are located here. 

Nature and wildlife are vital to the identity of Rajasthan. The state contains five national tiger reserves. These include Ranthambore National Park and Sariska Tiger Reserve. 
Rajasthan connects ancient traditions with modern development. The culture is visible in traditional foods like Dal Bati Choorma. You can also see it in vintage textile art. The state's political life is managed through institutions like the Rajasthan Legislative Assembly.
