Philippa Fawcett's legacy continues through various institutions and honors. The Fawcett building at Newnham College was named in 1938 to honor her and her family. At the University of Cambridge, Philippa Fawcett Drive is located near roads named after other STEM pioneers. These include Ada Lovelace, Charles Babbage, and J. J. Thomson. There is also the Philippa Fawcett Teaching College named in her honor. In 2020, the university launched the Philippa Fawcett Internship Programme for summer research. This program carries her name into the next generation of mathematical scientists.
Fawcett lived to see a major change in the institution that once denied her. She died in Hendon on June 10, 1948, shortly after her 80th birthday. Only one month before her death, the Grace allowing women to receive Cambridge BA degrees received royal assent. This meant that the barriers she faced during her career were finally being removed. Her life remains a vital link in the history of women in mathematics and science.
