In 1970, a sad accident happened while Mitr was filming. He was working on a movie called Insee Thong. This was the first film he produced himself. The script said he should fly away in a helicopter. Mitr jumped to grab a rope ladder from the aircraft. He only reached the lowest rung of the ladder. The pilot did not know and flew higher. Mitr lost his grip and fell 300 feet.

This accident happened at Dongtan Beach in South Pattaya. It was a very difficult time for the Thai film industry.

He gained significant popularity by playing Rom Rittikrai, a character from the Insee Daeng (Red Eagle) novel series by author Sake Dusit.

One of the most significant aspects of Mitr's career was his partnership with actress Petchara Chaowarat. They starred in their first film together in 1961, titled Banthuk Rak Pimchawee (Love Diary of Pimchawee). This began what is considered the most celebrated hero-heroine partnership in Thai cinematic history. The duo appeared in approximately 165 films together. One of their most famous works was the 1970 musical romantic comedy Monrak luk thung (Magical Love of the Countryside). This film celebrated Thai rural life and was a massive success, earning 6 million baht and playing in Bangkok cinemas for six months.

Mitr was known for an intense work ethic that defined his professional life. He was constantly moving between different film sets. He often slept only two or three hours per night to maintain his busy schedule. His filmography included various genres, from action movies like Pet Tad Pet (Operation Bangkok) to musical comedies. This high level of activity made him a household name, but it also placed him in demanding physical situations on set.

Tragically, Mitr's life ended during the production of his first self-produced film, Insee Thong (Golden Eagle). The final scene required him to fly away from the villains in a helicopter. As the cameras rolled, Mitr attempted to grab a rope ladder hanging from the aircraft. He only managed to reach the lowest rung of the ladder. Unaware of his position, the helicopter pilot flew higher. This caused Mitr to lose his grip and fall 300 feet to his death at Dongtan Beach in South Pattaya.

This accident was a major loss for the Thai film industry, which had also lost director Rattana Pestonji earlier that year. The fatal fall was caught on film and was originally included in the theatrical release of Insee Thong. Modern DVD versions have since removed the footage, replacing it with a tribute. Today, Mitr is remembered through a memorial shrine located in Jomtien Beach. The shrine contains a statue of Mitr holding a pistol, reflecting his action roles. People visit the shrine to use Kau Cim sticks to seek fortunes and leave offerings to show their respect.
