Success finally arrived with the launch of the Holland VI on May 17, 1897. The US Navy purchased this vessel on April 11, 1900. It was officially commissioned as the USS Holland (SS-1) on October 12, 1900. This success led to the founding of the Holland Torpedo Boat Company in 1896. In 1899, he helped form the Electric Boat Company, which was led by its first president, Isaac Leopold Rice.
