To manage his vast empire, Dayan Khan reorganized the Eastern Mongols. He divided them into six tumens, which means "ten thousand" in Mongolian. These tumens served as both military units and administrative bodies. The Left Wing included the Khalkha, Chahar, and Uriankhai. The Right Wing included the Ordos, Tümed, and Yöngshiyebü. He gave these tumens to his sons to rule as local chiefs. This created a decentralized system of Borjigin rule. This system provided stability for the Mongolian Plateau for one hundred years.
