This study used DNA to suggest that Antilocapridae is the sister taxon to Giraffidae. This means giraffes are the closest living relatives to the pronghorn.

There were also many other specialized groups like the Stockocerotini. Each of these groups represents a different branch of the family's long evolutionary journey through North America.

The transition from forests to grasslands forced animals to change their bodies and behaviors. The pronghorn remains as a living link to a much larger and more diverse past.
