What makes a planet rocky or giant?

Reading level 3 of 5 · IndependentChange
1 · Shorter sentences5 · More detail

Classification uses evidence about structure. A rocky world is dominated by rock and metal and may still carry an atmosphere. A giant world has a deep fluid interior and no ordinary hard surface at its visible cloud tops. Inspect the cross-sections rather than guessing from colour.
