Tonga is currently a semi-constitutional monarchy. This transition began in 2010 following legislative reforms and representative elections. 
The ecology of Tonga is rich and includes the Tongan tropical moist forests. The islands host 73 species of birds, including the endemic Tongan whistler and Tongan megapode.
