This causes sulfite to build up in the blood. Without treatment, this accumulation can lead to neurological damage and death shortly after birth. However, a treatment called fosdenopterin became available in 2009. This medicine requires daily injections to help manage the condition. This highlights how vital the balance of chemicals is to human life.
