Shivaji was a great leader in India. 


Shivaji fought many powerful groups. He fought the Bijapur Sultanate and the Mughal Empire. One famous fight was with a general named Afzal Khan. 


Shivaji I was a famous Indian ruler from the Bhonsle family. 


Shivaji learned to lead by taking control of forts. 
One of his most famous battles was against Afzal Khan. 

Shivaji also had to deal with the huge Mughal Empire. He worked with the Mughal leader Aurangzeb for a short time. However, they soon became enemies in many battles. At one point, Shivaji was defeated by the leader Jai Singh I. 
In 1674, Shivaji was officially crowned as the Chhatrapati. This ceremony took place at the Raigad Fort.
