In his later years, Ehrlich focused on biodiversity and environmental ethics. He worked with Dr. Gretchen Daily on countryside biogeography. This is the study of making human-disturbed areas hospitable to biodiversity. His research group at Stanford also studied the Bay checkerspot butterfly.
