That same year, he was awarded the Padma Vibhushan. The University of Calcutta gave him an honorary D.Litt. in 1957. He also received the title of 'Deshikottama' from Vishvabharati University. 
His influence extends to many modern institutions and people. The National Gallery of Modern Art in Delhi holds 7,000 of his works. He was also asked by Jawaharlal Nehru to design important emblems. These included the symbols for the Bharat Ratna and the Padma Shri awards. Many of his students became famous artists themselves. These include names like Satyajit Ray and Benode Behari Mukherjee. Bose died of natural causes on April 16, 1966, in Santiniketan. His legacy remains a vital part of India's cultural identity.
