Mark Zuckerberg is a famous American businessman and a skilled programmer.

Zuckerberg learned how to write computer code when he was very young. At age eleven, he made a program called ZuckNet. This tool let computers at his home talk to his father's office. In high school, he built a music player called the Synapse Media Player. This tool used machine learning to learn what a person liked to hear. Later, while at Harvard, he made a program called CourseMatch. This helped students pick classes and find study groups. He also made a site called Facemash that ranked photos of students.
In February 2004, Zuckerberg launched a new website called Thefacebook. He did this with his roommates at Harvard. These roommates were Eduardo Saverin, Andrew McCollum, Dustin Moskovitz, and Chris Hughes. The idea may have come from a school directory called The Photo Address Book. Zuckerberg eventually left Harvard to work on the project full-time. He moved to Palo Alto, California, to grow the business. He stayed in Silicon Valley because it is a famous center for technology.
Growing the company was not always easy or simple. Three students named Cameron, Tyler, and Divya sued him over the idea. They said he misled them about a different social network. This legal battle ended with a settlement of 1.2 million shares and 20 million dollars. Facebook grew very fast and reached 500 million users by 2010. Zuckerberg also worked to help more people use the internet. He started a project called Internet.org to connect people around the world.
Today, Zuckerberg's work affects how almost everyone uses the internet. He leads Meta and helps manage sites like Instagram and WhatsApp. He even meets with world leaders like the Russian Prime Minister.

Mark Elliot Zuckerberg is an American businessman and a highly skilled computer programmer.
Zuckerberg’s interest in software development began during his childhood in New York. At age eleven, he created a program called "ZuckNet." This program allowed computers in his family home to communicate with his father's dental office. During high school, he developed the Synapse Media Player. This device utilized machine learning, which is a way for computers to learn from habits. The player used machine learning to study a user's listening habits. He also attended graduate computer courses at Mercy College while still in high school.
In 2002, Zuckerberg began studying psychology and computer science at Harvard College. By this time, he already had a reputation as a programming prodigy. He created several programs while living in Kirkland House. One was called CourseMatch, which helped students select classes and form study groups. He also created a site called Facemash. This site allowed students to rank photos of others based on looks. The site became so popular that it overwhelmed a Harvard network switch. This prevented other students from accessing the internet, and the college shut the site down.
On February 4, 2004, Zuckerberg launched "Thefacebook" at the website thefacebook.com. He did this with roommates Eduardo Saverin, Andrew McCollum, Dustin Moskovitz, and Chris Hughes. The idea may have been inspired by a student directory at his former school, Phillips Exeter Academy. This directory was called "The Photo Address Book." Shortly after the launch, three Harvard seniors—Cameron Winklevoss, Tyler Winklevoss, and Divya Narendra—filed a lawsuit. They claimed Zuckerberg misled them to build a competing product called HarvardConnection.com. The legal dispute ended in a settlement involving 1.2 million Facebook shares and $20 million in cash.
Facebook expanded quickly from a "Harvard thing" to a global platform. Zuckerberg and Dustin Moskovitz helped spread the service to many universities, including Stanford and Yale. Zuckerberg eventually dropped out of Harvard to move to Palo Alto, California. There, he worked in a small leased house that served as an office. He stayed in Silicon Valley because it is a major center for computer technology. In the summer of 2004, Peter Thiel invested in the company. By July 21, 2010, Zuckerberg reported that Facebook had reached 500 million users.
Zuckerberg has received many honors for his work in technology. In 2007, he was named one of the top 35 innovators by MIT Technology Review. Vanity Fair named him the number one most influential person in the Information Age in 2010. He has also met with many world leaders, such as Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev.
Today, Zuckerberg leads Meta Platforms, which manages several major digital systems. This includes Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp. He has worked to integrate these platforms, such as connecting the chat systems for Instagram and Messenger. He also planned to implement end-to-end encryption across his major social media platforms. Despite his immense wealth, Zuckerberg receives a salary of only one dollar as CEO. His early life and the creation of Facebook were even depicted in the 2010 film, "The Social Network."
