It works by holding several cartridges in a specific order. Inside the magazine, there is a spring and a spring follower. The spring is under tension to push the cartridges upward. As the firearm moves, the magazine pushes each cartridge into the barrel chamber. This happens one after another in a steady sequence. This way, the gun is always ready for the next shot.
