Khalifa Haftar is a leader in Libya.

He was born in a place called Ajdabiya. He joined the army when he was young. He helped a man named Gaddafi take power.

However, in 1993, Libya convicted him in absentia for crimes against the state. This conviction included a death sentence while he was still living in America. In 2014, Haftar launched a new military campaign known as Operation Dignity. He aimed this campaign against the General National Congress (GNC) and its Islamic fundamentalist allies.

His forces eventually took full control of Benghazi, Libya's second-largest city, in July 2017.
