The Utah Jazz selected Malone with the 13th overall pick in the 1985 NBA draft. Interestingly, Malone believed the Dallas Mavericks would draft him. He had even rented an apartment in Dallas before the draft occurred. After joining the Jazz, he quickly rose to stardom. He made his first All-Star Game in 1988. He went on to earn 14 consecutive All-Star appearances. He was also selected to the All-NBA First Team 11 times.
