Later in life, Haydn became a famous star.

Franz Joseph Haydn was a central figure in the Classical period of music.
Haydn was born in 1732 in the village of Rohrau, Austria.
Despite these hardships, Haydn developed great skill on the violin and harpsichord.
By 1749, Haydn could no longer sing high choral parts as his voice matured.
Haydn eventually moved from freelance work to stable aristocratic patronage. He first worked for Baron Carl Josef Fürnberg, where he wrote his first string quartets. In 1761, he joined the service of the wealthy Esterházy family. He started as a Vice-Kapellmeister, which is a deputy music director. When the previous director died in 1766, Haydn became the full Kapellmeister.

Working for the Esterházy family provided Haydn with a unique creative environment. Because the family's estate was somewhat isolated, Haydn felt he was "forced to become original."
After the death of Nikolaus Esterházy in 1790, Haydn's career reached new heights.
