He granted Gutenberg the title of Hofmann, or gentleman of the court. This honor included a stipend and large amounts of grain and wine. Gutenberg died in 1468 and was likely buried in Mainz. His invention fundamentally altered the history of the West. It transformed the way information was stored and shared. Today, he is considered one of the most influential figures in human history.
