It is made of two parts: Europe and Asia. Some people see it as one single continent. It sits mostly in the Northern and Eastern Hemispheres. To the north is the Arctic Ocean. To the east is the Pacific Ocean. The Atlantic Ocean is to the west. Africa sits to the southwest.

This huge land holds over 5 billion people. That is about 70% of all people on Earth! Because it is so big, the weather changes a lot. You can find very hot and very cold places. There are also many types of plants and animals.

Eurasia has many famous features. It has the 100 highest mountains in the world. These peaks are in ranges like the Himalaya.

Eurasia is the largest continental area on our planet.

It is made by joining all of Europe and Asia together. Some scientists say it is one single continent. Others see Europe and Asia as two different places. This idea of two continents is mostly about culture. The borders between them have changed many times throughout history. Even the ancient Greeks had different ideas about these lands. They once thought Africa was part of Asia.

This massive landmass has many different shapes and sizes. It stretches from Iceland in the west to the Russian Far East. In the south, it reaches down to Southeast Asia.

It is surrounded by many different oceans and seas. The Arctic Ocean is to the north. The Pacific Ocean lies to the east. The Atlantic Ocean is on the west side. Africa sits near the southwest corner. Eurasia is connected to Africa at the Suez Canal. Some people call the whole area Afro-Eurasia.

Eurasia has a very long and busy history. Many ancient civilizations started here a long time ago. These include groups in Mesopotamia, Egypt, China, and the Indus Valley. In the middle of the first millennium BCE, a belt of civilizations grew across the land. This belt lasted for two thousand years. Later, new sea paths were found in the 1490s. The Suez Canal was also finished in 1869. This helped people travel more easily between different regions.

There are many amazing natural features to see here. All 100 of the highest mountains on Earth are in Eurasia. You can find them in ranges like the Himalaya and the Caucasus.

Many huge rivers flow through the land too. The Yangtze River in China is one of the longest. The Yellow River and the Mekong are also very large. Eurasia has many islands like Great Britain and Java. Because the land is so big, the weather is very diverse. It has the hottest and coldest places on Earth. It also has many different types of plants and animals.

Today, more than 5 billion people live in Eurasia. That is about 70% of all the people in the world.

Many countries work together in this large region. They form groups like the Eurasian Economic Union. These groups help with trade and working together. There are also large groups like the Shanghai Cooperation Organization. This group covers three-fifths of the continent. It also includes nearly half of the human population. These connections help keep the huge landmass moving forward.

Eurasia is the largest continental area on Earth. It consists of the combined landmasses of Europe and Asia. While many people view Europe and Asia as separate continents, this division is largely a cultural concept. Physically, Eurasia can be viewed as a single, massive continent.

Some models even combine Eurasia with Africa to describe Afro-Eurasia. This is the largest contiguous landmass on the planet. Eurasia is located primarily within the Northern and Eastern Hemispheres.

The geography of Eurasia is incredibly vast and diverse. It stretches from Iceland and the Iberian Peninsula in the west to the Russian Far East. In the north, it reaches the Arctic Ocean. To the south, it extends to Maritime Southeast Asia. The land is bordered by the Atlantic Ocean to the west and the Pacific Ocean to the east. The Indo-Mediterranean lies to the south, while Africa sits near the southwest.

Because of its enormous size and different latitudes, Eurasia contains every type of climate. This includes the most extreme hot and cold temperatures on Earth. It also hosts a wide variety of ecosystems and precipitation levels.

Geologically, Eurasia has a complex history of formation. It began forming between 375 and 325 million years ago. This happened through the merging of several landmasses, including Siberia, Kazakhstania, and Baltica. These were eventually joined to Laurentia, which is part of North America, to form Euramerica. In modern plate tectonics, the Eurasian Plate includes Europe and most of Asia. However, it does not include the Indian subcontinent or the Arabian Peninsula. Geologists often debate whether Eurasia should be viewed as a single rigid mega block.

The physical landscape of Eurasia is home to extreme natural features. All 100 of the highest mountains on Earth are located here. These peaks are found in ranges like the Himalaya, Karakoram, and Hindu Kush. All mountains exceeding 7,000 metres are located in these ranges or the Transhimalaya. The Alpide belt is another massive feature, stretching 15,000 km from Java to the Iberian Peninsula.

The continent also contains many long rivers. The Yangtze is the longest, followed by the Yellow River and the Mekong. Many large islands are also part of Eurasia, such as Borneo, Sumatra, and Honshu.

Human history is deeply tied to the Eurasian landmass. Many ancient civilizations, such as those in Mesopotamia, Egypt, and China, began here. During the Axial Age, a continuous belt of civilizations stretched from the Atlantic to the Pacific. This belt shaped world history for two millennia. New maritime routes discovered in the 1490s created new connections between subregions. Later, the completion of the Suez Canal in 1869 allowed for direct passage through the Indo-Mediterranean. These developments changed how different parts of the continent interacted.

Today, Eurasia is home to more than 5 billion people. This represents approximately 70% of the total human population.

Because so many people live here, the continent is a center of global activity. The land contains many peninsulas, such as the Arabian, Korean, and Italian peninsulas. It also features many densely populated islands. For example, Java and Honshu are among the most populated islands in the world. This massive population drives much of the world's social and economic trends.

Because of its size, many international organizations work to connect Eurasian nations. The Shanghai Cooperation Organization is a major political and security alliance. It covers three-fifths of the continent and nearly half of the human population. Other groups, like the Eurasian Economic Union, focus on economic integration.

There are also forums like the Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) that encourage cooperation. These organizations attempt to manage the complex relationships between the many different countries in the region. They help facilitate trade, politics, and security across the vast continent.
