Two big groups fought for land.
Two lands fought over a place by the water.
Brazil held the land first. But a group of people wanted to be free. They led a fight to change things.
The fighting was very hard. Both sides fought on land and sea. It cost a lot of money. It was hard for the leaders too.
Finally, they made a deal. They stopped the fighting. This helped a new land start.
That new land is called Uruguay. It is a real place you can visit today.
Long ago, two lands fought over a place near a river.

In 1825, a group called the Thirty-Three Orientals started a rebellion. They were led by Juan Antonio Lavalleja. They wanted the land to be free from Brazil. They wanted to join the United Provinces. This led to a big war. Both sides fought on land and at sea.
The fighting was very hard. The armies fought many battles. The war cost a lot of money for both sides. It also caused many political problems for their leaders. In 1828, the two lands signed a peace treaty. They agreed to stop the fighting. This deal helped a new, independent country be born. That country is Uruguay.
The Cisplatine War was a conflict between two strong lands in South America. It happened in the 1820s between the Empire of Brazil and the United Provinces of the Río de la Plata. Both sides wanted to control a region called the Banda Oriental.

The war began after many years of tension and failed talks. In 1823, the United Provinces tried to talk to Brazil about leaving the region. Brazil refused to negotiate or leave the province.

Fighting happened on both land and at sea. The armies fought many battles to try and win control. On land, the two sides reached a point where neither could win. This is called an impasse. One of the biggest battles on land was the battle of Ituzaingó.

The war was very hard on the money and politics of both lands. The cost of fighting was huge for both Brazil and the United Provinces. In Brazil, the war caused many arguments about how to lead. Emperor Pedro I even lost his throne later because of these problems.
Finally, the two sides signed a peace deal in 1828. This happened with help from the British. They signed the Preliminary Peace Convention on 27 August 1828. This deal meant that the fighting would stop. Most importantly, the land of Cisplatina became its own independent country. That country is known today as the Oriental Republic of Uruguay. This changed the map of South America forever.
The Cisplatine War was a major armed conflict during the 1820s. It was fought between the Empire of Brazil and the United Provinces of the Río de la Plata. The main cause was a dispute over control of the Banda Oriental region.
The conflict had deep historical roots dating back to the late 1600s. In 1679, the Portuguese crown ordered the founding of Colônia do Sacramento. This town was built on a peninsula with a natural harbor. The Portuguese wanted to secure access to the continent and stop silver smuggling. In response, the Spaniards founded Montevideo on the opposite bank in 1724.
By the early 1800s, the region became even more unstable. A leader named José Gervasio Artigas fought for independence and resisted both Spanish and Portuguese control. He led a group of people in what was known as the "Exodus of the Oriental People."
The war itself was sparked by a failed diplomatic mission in 1823. The United Provinces sent representatives to Brazil to negotiate a peaceful withdrawal. Brazil rejected these proposals and refused to leave the province. In 1825, a group of patriots called the Thirty-Three Orientals launched a rebellion.
Fighting occurred across both land and sea with varying results. On land, the armies reached a military impasse. The largest land battle was the battle of Ituzaingó.

The economic and political costs of the war were immense for both sides. The Brazilian naval blockade and the land stalemate drained resources. In Brazil, the financial burden and political disputes weakened Emperor Pedro I. These issues eventually led to his abdication in 1831.
Peace was finally achieved through international mediation by the British. On 27 August 1828, representatives signed the Preliminary Peace Convention.
