In 2015, authorities arrested four people for attempting to smuggle more than 100 kilograms of protected meteorites. Because of these threats, the meteorites are now protected by provincial law. This ensures that these scientific wonders remain in Argentina for study. The fragments are not just heavy rocks; they are protected pieces of history.
