Infrastructure and services are highly developed in the city. The Viracopos International Airport is a major hub for global trade. 

The climate in Campinas is classified as a tropical savanna climate. This means the city has distinct wet and dry seasons. The wet season runs from mid-October to mid-April. During this time, January is often the rainiest month. The dry season lasts from mid-May to mid-September. August is typically the driest month of the year. Temperatures can be quite warm, especially in February. The highest temperature ever recorded was 39.0 °C in 1985. Conversely, the lowest temperature was −1.5 °C in 1918.
Environmental changes have affected the local landscape over time. Much of the original vegetation has been removed. Currently, less than 5% of the total area has vegetation cover. This has caused issues like flooding and silting.
