Senna's journey into racing began at a very young age. He was born in São Paulo, Brazil, on March 21, 1960. 

After karting, Senna moved into higher levels of open-wheel racing. In 1981, he moved to England to compete in Formula Ford 1600. He won both the British and Townsend Thoresen Championships that year. He later dominated the British and European Championships in 1982. In 1983, he competed in the British Formula Three Championship. He won the title after a very close battle with Martin Brundle. That same year, he also won the inaugural Macau Grand Prix. These successes prepared him for the highest level of the sport: Formula One.
Senna made his Formula One debut in 1984 with the Toleman team. 
One of the most famous periods of Senna's career was with McLaren. He joined McLaren in 1988 to partner with Alain Prost. They drove the Honda-powered MP4/4, which was a very dominant car. That season, the pair won 15 of the 16 Grands Prix held. Senna won his first World Drivers' Championship title by only three points. He won eight races that year, which was a record at the time. His rivalry with Prost was intense and led to famous collisions at Suzuka in 1989 and 1990. 
Senna won two more world titles in 1990 and 1991. 

Tragically, Senna was killed in a crash while leading the race at Imola. This event had a massive impact on the sport. His state funeral was attended by over one million people. Following his death, Formula One introduced many important safety reforms. He was the last fatality in the championship until Jules Bianchi in 2014. Senna's legacy is honored through his induction into the International Motorsports Hall of Fame in 2000. He was also inducted into the Automotive Hall of Fame in 2025. He remains a symbol of skill and passion for racing fans worldwide.
