Since the 1960s, only two dedicated attack aircraft designs have been widely used. These are the American Fairchild Republic A-10 Thunderbolt II and the Soviet/Russian Sukhoi Su-25 Grach. Many smaller light attack aircraft are also used today. These are often adapted from trainers to help with counter-insurgency operations.
