Manufacturing the A320 family happens in several locations around the world. Final assembly takes place in Toulouse, France. It also occurs in Hamburg, Germany. Since 2009, assembly has been done in Tianjin, China. In April 2016, a new line opened in Mobile, Alabama, in the United States.

In December 2010, Airbus announced the A320neo, which stands for "new engine option." This version entered service with Lufthansa in January 2016. The A320neo uses more efficient turbofan engines.
