The line passes near the Gilbert Islands, the Phoenix Islands, and the Kermadec Islands of New Zealand. 
Modern technology faces unique challenges when dealing with this line. Many geographic software libraries project the spherical Earth onto a flat, rectangular map. This projection often splits the map exactly at the 180th meridian. This makes it difficult for computers to perform simple tasks. For example, representing a single area or a continuous line can become non-trivial. The GeoJSON specification suggests splitting geometries so they do not cross the antimeridian. OpenStreetMap handles this by splitting large areas, such as the boundary of Russia, at this line. 
Even popular navigation tools must account for this geographic split. In Google Maps, users may encounter limitations near the line. On the island of Taveuni in Fiji, navigation is not possible if a user tries to cross the 180th meridian. The system only allows navigation if the user stays on one side of the line. This demonstrates how a theoretical line of longitude can create practical hurdles in digital systems. The 180th meridian remains a vital tool for understanding our world and how we map it.
